There are three amazing opportunities for youth ministries to serve in Orlando following their SLU 101 experience. While the majority of youth groups serve with Give Kids The World, we can help you partner with any of these great organizations or even tailor an experience unique to your group by serving at all of them. Give Kids the World Village Located in Kissimmee, Give Kids The World (GKTW) is a non-profit organization that fulfills wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses by providing them and their families with cost-free, weeklong trips to Central Florida’s attractions. Student Leadership University partners with GKTW to minister to and touch the guest families. SLU 101 students serve from Thursday through Sunday in a variety of ways. When the families are visiting theme parks, SLU students do maintenance and light construction projects throughout the village. Each night offers a different theme party, with SLU students playing with and investing in the children and families. GKTW provides a great opportunity for students to be the hands and feet of Jesus to hurting families. Orlando Union Rescue Mission OUR Mission Home is a transitional housing facility that serves single women, single mothers, and married couples with children. The facility’s home-like atmosphere provides residents private and semi-private rooms at no charge. Homeless women, children, and families live in the Home until they are able to regain their footing and live self-sufficiently again. SLU students serve through construction projects, leading Bible clubs, participating in sports camps, and leading weekly worship services. OUR Mission provides a great opportunity to connect and minister to the homeless and hurting of Central Florida. Callahan Center The Dr. J.B. Callahan Neighborhood Center offers programs for children ages 5 -17, as well as adults. The center hosts a Head Start program and a variety of evening programs and activities for the community. SLU students, partnering with the Callahan Center, passed out 3,000 backpacks to under-resourced and homeless children in 2009. Callahan Center provides a great opportunity to connect and minister to under-resourced children in downtown Orlando. Day Camps, Sports Camps, and Bible Clubs are all great outreach projects that will challenge students to be the hands and feet of Jesus! SLU offers a mission component in conjunction with your SLU 101 week for the weeks of June 14, July 12 and July 19. We offer 2 different options:
