What will I be doing at SLU?
There is a sample itinerary on our website. You will be participating in leadership training which will help you realize who you are, what God has called you to do, and how to begin working toward those goals NOW. 22 hours of intense training is mixed with behind-the-scenes experiences at Sea World and other theme parks.
How can I be preparing now for my SLU experience?
First of all, you can decide that you are going to get the most you can out of the experience by fully engaging in the sessions and training. We also encourage you to pray about what the Lord is going to teach you while you are at SLU and how He wants to use you to impact the world. READ as much as you can…the Bible, leadership material, newspapers, etc. For a suggested reading list, visit our website.
What does a “single” mean?
A single is any student who comes without an adult. These students may come alone or with friends, but they do not have a group leader over 18 years old who has graduated from high school.
If I am coming by myself, who will I be staying with?
If you register as a single, SLU will place you in a room with other singles. Our pricing is based on four people per room, so you will have 3 roommates unless there are not enough singles to fill that room. All rooms have two double beds.
Are there rollaway beds available?
Rollaway beds are available in king rooms for an additional charge, but will not be available in double bed rooms.
How old do I have to be to come to SLU?
As a single, you must be at least 15 years old.
What do I do if I have dietary restrictions or food allergies?
If you have special dietary restrictions or food allergies, they must be submitted to SLU at the time of registration. If something comes up after registration, you can update your registration information up to 15 days before the program begins. Please be sure to offer specifics on what you can not eat and what can be substituted. We will make every effort to accommodate, but there may be certain times when this is not possible. We strongly recommend that you bring prepared foods or snacks with you that are compliant with your dietary needs.
Once I am registered, how will I receive information on the conference?
All communication from SLU is done via email. Please make sure at the time of registration you enter an email address that you check regularly. Within 48 hours of registration, you will receive an email confirmation that we have received your registration. At this time you will also get instructions on how to access your personal web page where you can track your information on the conference.
Will I need transportation while I am at SLU?
Once you arrive at the hotel, you will not need transportation. SLU provides transportation to all of our off-site experiences. For singles who are flying, SLU arranges transportation to hotel from the airport and then back again.
I am bringing my car to SLU. Do I need to pay for parking?
Payment for parking varies according to hotel property. You can confirm this with the hotel once you register for SLU. You should plan on parking your car and not using it until the last SLU session is completed.
What does my SLU Staff Member do?
The SLU Summer Staff is made up of college students who are leaders on their campuses. Some are hand chosen to represent their university at SLU, and others are SLU Alumni who have completed at the least the first three levels of our SLU programs. They give their summer to serve you in every capacity. They will help guide you through the week, take care of any questions or details that you need assistance with, and just hang out with you.
Do you recommend getting the travel insurance?
SLU highly recommends participants take advantage of either of the two insurance options offered. Please note that you must sign up for this at the time you register for SLU. You can review the insurance documents on the website to get more information.
Do you have recommendations on how to book flights to the conference?
For groups needing assistance making flight arrangements, SLU recommends contacting Go Travel Company. Ask for Kathy Nau at 800-800-7703 ext 116 or Kathyn@gotravelorlando.com. With over 30 years experience in the industry, Kathy is a great resource in helping groups find affordable flights.
